What are the different Yoga Certifications available?
There are several different types of yoga certifications available, each with their own specific requirements and focus. Some of the most common certifications include:
Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) – offered by the Yoga Alliance, this is the most widely recognized certification for yoga teachers. To earn this certification, you’ll need to complete a yoga teacher training program that meets the standards set by the Yoga Alliance, and then pass an exam.
Certified Yoga Teacher (CYT) – offered by various organizations, a CYT certification generally indicates that a teacher has completed a certain number of hours of training, although the requirements can vary from one organization to another.
Yoga Therapist – offered by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), this certification is intended for yoga teachers who want to specialize in using yoga to help people with specific health conditions. To become a Yoga Therapist, you’ll need to complete additional coursework and training beyond what’s required for a general yoga teacher certification.
Kids Yoga Teacher – offered by some organizations, this certification focuses on teaching yoga to children and covers appropriate language, activities, and poses for kids, along with child development and classroom management skills.
Restorative Yoga Teacher – similar to kids yoga teacher, this certification focuses on teaching restorative yoga practice and prop usage for people with specific needs, such as injury recovery, stress, or health conditions.
Prenatal Yoga Teacher – similar to restorative yoga teacher, this certification focuses on teaching yoga to pregnant women, covering safe poses and modifications, prenatal health and anatomy, and how to create a supportive and nurturing class environment.
