HW: Journey to Joyful
I really enjoy Journey to Joyful and have read through it a few times now. Such a large variety of topics were touched on in so short a book, it’s tough to decide which impacted my training and practice the most.
For me, the breath work is one of the most important aspects. In our early teenage years, myself and my siblings experienced a fair amount of panic attacks and my sister and I went through a few years of feeling like we couldn’t breathe. Upon taking Svaroopa yoga classes which focus on Ujjai breath, and paying close attention to Dashama’s cues in the 30 DYC, I finally learned how to breathe properly in my early 20s. It was such a relief to be able to breathe freely and now I love playing around with breath work and seeing what my body is capable of. I especially love Kapalabhati.
Navigating the seas of emotions and inner child meditations opened me up to accepting things in my past that I refused to face previously. I’ve always been energy sensitive and feel everything intensely. Learning to reign it in has been huge for me and will help me as a teacher to feel centered and not controlled by everyone else’s energy.
I will definitely be coming back to this book as I always find something new to focus on.
