HW: Special Cases
I can share from the special case that arises for me at times, which is a tight lower back. In situations such as forward bends while standing or forward bends in staff position, I would invite the student to modify the pose by bending at the knees in order to safely and comfortably get into the asana while maintaining the alignment of the spine. From there we can build up by straightening the legs a little more during each class. If it’s a situation with a tighter lower back I would offer the use of blocks so the student can ground their hands at a level that’s comfortable for where they can currently bend forward, again, while maintaining alignment and protecting the lower back.
