Neck Stretch
There is often so much relief and satisfaction gleaned from a simply neck stretch. We carry so much tension in this area of the body, taking a few minutes each day to release the neck can be so beneficial.
Sitting comfortably, in either an Easy or Hero Pose, the spine is long, crown lifted, chin tucking in slightly. (For some, simply dropping an ear to shoulder is enough to start with.) As demonstrated below, drop the left ear to left shoulder and wrap the left arm around the head resting the hand over the ear, allowing the weight of the hand and arm to deepen the stretch. To go further still, you can either bend the right arm and take it behind you resting it on the low back, hand reaching to the opposite hip, OR as demonstrated, sit on the right hand, for more length through the open side. Pause here and breathe into the stretch. After a few rounds of breath, using the right hand, you can opt to massage the side of the neck with your right hand, getting deep into the neck and top of the shoulder muscles with a firm squeezing action between the fingers and thumb.
