Hw: Pranayama
Breathwork for lung expansion
Find a comfortable and supported seat, joints stacked, a tall spine, and crown lifted to the sky. Come to a steady breath, maybe take 3-4 breaths here. Fully exhale, and take a deep inhale through your nose, expand your diaphragm and fill you lungs as much as possible. Hold the breath here for 30 seconds. If you find you are having a hard time holding your breathe, release a tiny bit of air and inhale again to reach the maximum amount of air your lungs can hold. I find it helpful to place a hand on the heart and belly, and imagine the oxygen swirling around my body, clearing out all that needs to be released with the exhale. Once 30 seconds has passed, exhale and let it all out. Repeat this process, and try to hold your breath the second time for 6” seconds, and then for 90 seconds. As you get more comfortable with this exercise, you will notice your lung capacity growing.
