I WAS SO EXCITED WHEN I DID THIS! It felt so good to finally figure out the hand grip to pull my foot up :’-)

Two poses that can build up to king pigeon are pigeon pose, bringing one knee to the hand in a plank position, while bringing the foot to the opposite hand, dropping the shin parallel to the front of the mat while the other leg lays flat to the earth. This is our pigeon pose. From here, in order to go into a mermaid pose, flex the back leg, kick the heel up towards the glutes, and reach back with the arm on the same side of the body. Then, bring the foot into the elbow crease, holding it here, then bringing the other arm up and over, behind the head to meet the hand that grabbed the foot. Interlace/bind the fingers and pull away from the back of the head, breathing deeply, stretching into the armpits and shoulders, and dropping the shoulders away from the ears. Deep belly breaths here is our mermaid pose. From here, to go into king pigeon, bring the hand on the same side as your mermaid tail back to the toes, but grabbing them from the outer edge of the foot, really get a good grip on the big toe. Without dumping into the back, or over-extending, begin to turn the elbow out and up above the head, pulling the toes up towards the head. From here, you can reach up and back with the other arm as well, also grabbing the toes. Alternatively, you may also have the front foot closer to the opposite hip, and the hand from the front leg side can reach across the lower back to bind with the foot at the opposite hip. Yay, you did it!!!
