Cobra Pose
I love Cobra Pose…for something that looks relatively simple and at some level is accessible to everyone, there is so much going on!!
Coming in to the pose from laying on your belly. Lift each leg in turn, pointing the toes and stretching the leg out behind you. Feet can be together or apart depending on the space available in the low back. Press all 10 toes down into the mat. Lift the low belly up and in and slide the tailbone down toward the heels. Spread the fingers wide, finding hasta bandha, squeeze the shoulder blades together and roll the chest forward as you inhale & lift up, then roll the shoulders back. Press in to the tops of the feet, to lift the knees and engage the legs, protecting the back.
Focus on the lengthening of the spine rather than how high you can lift.
To release, stretch forward to roll back down.
