    The heart chakra (Anahata) is my personal favourite chakra. Anahata roughly translates to « unhurt, unbeaten » and is associated with our sense of compassion, love and emotional balance. The heart chakra is very important as it is the middle chakra connecting the lower and upper chakras together – bridging the gap between earth and spirit – hence why it is so important for our sense of balance.

    A healthy heart chakra will experience a depth of loving relationships, healthy boundaries and an abundance of compassion for themselves and others. An excessive heart chakra can be damaging as you will often find yourselves codependent and jealous. With an excessive heart chakra you may find you have set unhealthy boundaries which lead to clinginess. A deficient heart chakra is the opposite and you may find yourself lonely and withdrawn. With a deficient heart chakra you may fear intimacy and so you push others away from you.

    The heart chakra is associated with the colour green and so, as always, incorporating more of this colour whether that be through crystals and gems or oils and herbs this will help connect you more to the heart chakra energy and help rebalance it. (Eg. Jade, rose quartz, lavender oil)

    What may also help is going outside and immersing yourself into the greenery of nature – take your yoga practice outside. Deep shoulder openers such as wheel or fish or camel pose can help open the heart chakra and release unwanted emotions.
