    Seed/Bija Mantra: Yam

The Heart Chakra – Anahata, as expected is located in line with the centre of the chest, heart, and lungs. As such, its elemental quality is Air. Keeping the heart unstuck with beautifully expansive, and heart opening practices, will keep Anahata moving towards kindness, joy, compassion, and gratitude. Whatever your thoughts are on the chakras, at the very least, the heart, with its powerful energy is probably the most tangible: We feel it ache, experience pain, notice it’s flutters, and we tend to touch our upper chest when we feel it filled with joy and happiness. Ultimately, this chakra is all about our ability to love and spiritual awareness.

With a balanced heart, we can find inner peace, with love and compassion and gratitude, flowing freely from and to you. When the heart is out of balance, it can show us in many ways, both physically and emotionally. We could feel have feelings of anger, betrayal, jealousy, resentment, unworthiness, and even behaviours of narcissism. The trouble here is that this can lead to more serious issues such as depression. Physically we could find we develop asthma, allergies, and other lung, heart, and circulatory issues.

There are many yoga practices that can support the heart chakra; poses such as anahata, back bends to open the chest, cobra, – there are many. However, here is where things like guided meditations, particularly inner child healing, can be particularly useful. Getting to the root of anything held in the heart, seeing it with compassion, is vital if we want to be able to let it go. It is helpful to try and cultivate some loving kindness when you are stuggling in a place of lack, although this can be difficult. The most valuable thing therefore has to be the practice of Gratitude. You might feel totally wrecked, unloved, and unloving, and embittered, but you can start slowly to find things to be grateful for. Cultivate this, step by step, and allow it to grow from gratitude to unconditional love. This is your greatest asset. 💛
