HW: Chakra Series (3) – Solar Plexus
The third chakra, the solar plexus chakra is called Manipura in Sanskrit, which means “lustrous gem”. The central issue surrounding the solar plexus has to do with power and will, as well as how we define ourselves. The goals of this chakra center are vitality, spontaneity, strength of will, purpose and self-esteem. This chakra’s right is the right to ACT and is developed around 18 months to 4 years. This is the time the ego develops its identity. People with unbalanced chakras generally feel a lot of shame and ways this can manifest in an excessive manner is with dominating, controlling, agressive personalities. Deficient solar plexus chakra can lead to weak will, poor self-esteem, passive, sluggish and fearful.
For me, I have been deficient in my third chakra all of my life, but as I balance my root chakra and my sacral, I am also balancing my solar plexus. A strong core can be literal here, so core workouts during yoga are very helpful to beginning to balance this chakra.
