The fourth chakra is the heart chakra and is called Anthata. It is located near the center of your chest near your heart and is associated with the color green. This chakra is driven by integration and transformation in one’s life. When this chakra is open, the individual will feel more love, compassion and beauty in their life. This chakra is said to bridge earthly and spiritual desires.

This chakra is super important as it definitely needs to be open to start to connect to the spiritual source and universe. If this chakra is blocked an individual will feel closed off to the world and will not be able to hear what the greater source/universe is telling them to do. During heart chakra sequences, there will be a lot of back bends and chest opener positions like bow poses, camel poses, bridges, and full wheels. In addition, shoulder stretches that also open up the chest will be seen a lot too. All of these poses will be to open the heart to greater divine by stretching the chest muscles and the front shoulders. Another popular pose is the puppy pose where the individual brings their heart down to the ground so they can really connect with the earth as that part of the bridging process.

During a heart chakra series, one will see prayer hands or lotus hands at their chest often. Prayer hands are when you are trying to communicate or send energy to the universe, where lotus hands are to receive the energy the universe is sending to the individual.

This one is important in my life as I have a hard time connecting with God (I am Catholic) and the universe. I struggle to hear the message in which I am supposed to receive. Opening up this chakra definitely made me feel more love and compassion as well as self –love. Feeling love for oneself is the first step to be able to hear the message in which they are supposed to receive.
