HW: Chakra #2 – Sacral Chakra
The second chakra is the sacral chakra and is called Svadhisthana. It is located just below the naval. The color associated with sacral chakra is orange. The element related with the sacral chakra is water so it really focuses on flow and flexibility. A lot of poses to clear blocked energy in the sacral chakra are slow continuous movement. Not many poses for this chakra are meant to be held for several breaths.
The sacral chakra is associated with emotions, sensuality and creativity and is directed by the principle of pleasure. It is often said that emotions or emotional trauma is held in the hips and doing a sacral chakra flow will release any blocks and help one overcome the trauma as well as release any negative emotions or stress they are feeling.
It is important for one to release a block at the sacral chakra for many reasons. Not only will it allow you to move closer to the flow state but it will also bring joy and please into one’s life. The pleasure that one feels can be sexual intimacy with their partner, expressing their creativity in music or art, releasing their inner child with lots of laughter and enjoyable experiences or feeling pure joy in their current situation. The sacral chakra is related to feelings of happiness, which everyone deserves to feel often in throughout their days, weeks, years and lifetime.
This chakra is definitely one I focus on a lot. I have personally felt the relationship between having tight hips and lower back and emotional stress. When my sacral chakra is blocked, I tend to be more anxious, stressed and overwhelmed and feel it physically in my hips mostly but also my lower back. I have always noticed how much more relaxed I feel after doing hip openers and lower back stretches.
