    Chakra: The Crown

Element: Consciousness / Thought / Nothing

    Colour: Purple/Violet OR White.

    Sound: Aum / Silence

The Crown Chakra, Sahasrara – located in line with the crown of the head and aligning with the element of Ether or Akasa, or simply ‘consciousness’. This chakra is connected to the ruling principle in life, the meaning of all things perceived and the true essence of the being of awareness that dwells within.

There is consciousness and conscious connection at every chakra, but at the crown we find that which is beyond consciousness, the superconscious, or to put it another way, the nature of awareness itself. In short, this point is where the physical body and individual consciousness meets with the higher self and the collective consciousness. The crown chakra allows you to grow spiritually, and connect with divine knowing. It is the house of the witness, the seat of enlightenment.

This chakra is affected by the needs of our society and our physical world. It is concerned with letting go of the singular, physical consciousness in order to become one with the collective. Blockages in this chakra can be quite serious and tricky to overcome. Those who are extremely materialistic and have difficulty letting go of their material possessions are likely to have a block here. It may cause a disconnect between the mind and body, and even between you and your emotions. Feeling empathy for others may also be difficult. Manifestations of blocks here may include depressions, confusion, boredom, apathy, alienation, poor coordination, an inability to learn, lack of connection or direction, isolation, lonliness, and spiritual disconnect. At the extreme, neurological disorders are also possible, such as insomnia, depression, pineal disorders, and even dementia, psychosis and pschizophrenia.

When in balance, we find ourselves to be more positive with visible changes to our habits and attitudes. We are likely to find a freedom where the Self is no longer ruled by the Ego. It brings spiritual connection and understanding, and a deep sense of inner peace and strength, with clear perspective, faith, and deep universal wisdom.

Yoga practices useful for supporting Sahasrara chakra include Tree and Mountain pose, inversions such as headstands, and savasana. Equally, silent meditation, and breathing practices such as Nadii Shodana can help with this. 😇
